The U.S.S. Vandenberg has become one of the best artificial reef dive sites for recreational divers worldwide. The Vandenberg started its life as a troop transport during World War II, but was overhauled in 1961 as a mobile missile tracker. She will offer a unique dive profile thanks to her three 40-foot-wide radar dishes and two tracking domes.
This wreck was rated as the number one wreck in the world by the readers of Scuba Diving Magazine. She is the second-largest artificial reef in the world and a bucket list dive for many experienced divers.
Location: Marathon, Florida
Dive Charter: Captain Hooks
Date: August 11th
This former U.S. Army vessel was used for lightning research, hence the name.
When descending upon this very popular wreck, you will find a heavily encrusted former cable layer. Diving into the bow, you will find Thunderbolt's cable-laying wheel, which has been fused in place at the bottom for 16 years.
Barracuda and schools of jacks are guides on your wreck tour. Penetration of the wheelhouse and crew's quarters is possible; you can swim up a staircase amidship and view the twin-broze propellers. The queen of the Marathon shipwreck fleet, Thunderbolt is endlessly fascinating to explore, both inside ad out.

The breathtakingly enormous Spiegel Grove, nearly two football fields long, is the "grande dame" of Key Largo wrecks. As you descend on the 510-foot Grove, you get a dreamlike view of a wreck that appears to be cruising in the deep blue ocean depths.
During that moment, you know this will be a special dive. Amazing barracuda, horse-eye jacks, and silversides claim Spiegel Grove as their home.
You never know what you will see. The U.S.S. Spiegel Grove is a remarkable dive!
